University Mattress was founded in 2006 by Adam Studner while he was in college. While attending Vanderbilt University he identified the benifits of sleeping on an upgraded sleep surface. After addressing the issue by utilizing visco elastic memory foam toppers and mattresses it was readily apparent that many other students wanted the same solutions and comfortable sleep environment. He then set out to determine how to make the process simple, seamless and hassle free, as local providers could not accommodate the logistical peculiarities of student timetables and summer storage. Hence, University Mattress was born after seeking out industry and retail expertise!University Mattress, LLC began as a joint venture with Joanne's Bed and Back Stores Inc., a mid Atlantic based retailer with 16 stores. JoAnne's was founded in 1987 and was considered the first ergonomic back and mattress store in the United States. Together with JoAnne's sleep products experts, University Mattress developed the product lineup you find at our store today, with special focus on the college environment. In 2008, University Mattress ended its relationship with JoAnne's when JoAnne's was purchased by Healthy Back. University Mattresses principal sales and retail executive is Mark Weinstein. Mark was the founder, President, CEO and Chairman of The Cosmetic Center, a retail company in which he spearheaded the growth from one store to over 75. During that time, he took the company public and ultimately sold it to Revlon. Since that time, he has been involved in various business ventures and capacities. Since our humble start at American University in 2006, University Mattress has grown by leaps and bounds. We now have partnerships with 8 universities up and down the east coast and have many more in the works. We also service summer camps, apartment complexes, and have opened a general store for the public. |
